Some say that the Plönlein in Rothenburg is the most photographed spot in all of Germany. I don’t know if that’s true, but it’s certainly the most photographed corner of this town. The name means “little square,” and the yellow half-timbered house framed by two medieval towers has become the poster child for Rothenburg. Normally it’spacked with tourists, but I slipped out before sunrise and had the cobblestones to myself. Just my luck—it was fogged in! But instead of ruining the view, the fog turned the Plönlein into something mysterious, with a soft pink glow from the rising sun making it feel straight out of a storybook.
