We had originally planned on renting e-bikes today to visit three Alsace villages, but with the forecast calling for rain, we decided not to risk it. Instead, we drove to Kayserberg and arrived about 8:30 in the morning. The town was virtually deserted—just townsfolk quietly preparing for the day’s business. With its cobbled streets, colorful timber-framed houses, and medieval charm, Kayserberg felt like stepping back in time.

Kayserberg is best known as the birthplace of Albert Schweitzer, Nobel Peace Prize–winning physician and humanitarian, and for its striking medieval bridge that spans the Weiss River. Once a fortified town guarding a key trade route through the Vosges Mountains, it still carries that sense of history in every stone archway and half-timbered façade.

Next stop: Riquewihr. Still no rain!
