We checked out of our Chartres Airbnb this morning and took the short walk to the train station. In less than an hour we rolled into Paris at Montparnasse and grabbed an Uber to our hotel. After dropping our bags, we got directions to the nearest metro and headed for the Musée Marmottan Monet. This museum holds the world’s largest collection of Monet’s works, including Impression, Sunrise (the painting that gave Impressionism its name). It also features works by Berthe Morisot, Manet, and Renoir.
Next it was back underground to the Eiffel Tower, where we boarded a boat tour on the River Seine. Floating past landmarks like the Louvre, Notre-Dame, and the Grand Palais gave us a new perspective on Paris. It was a little chilly, but not bad—plus Peggy and I got a laugh when they shuffled us into the “old people’s line.” Upside: we were first on board and scored the best seats right up front!
Dinner was high culture of another kind—we dined with the locals at a Five Guys. If you think it’s pricey in the U.S., Paris takes it to another level. Not many pictures today, but if you’re craving more, check out my Paris album with 500 of my best shots from previous trips.
More Paris adventures tomorrow!
